Carl Vinson visits Hawaii during Return to San Diego Homeport

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 arrived in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for a scheduled port visit, May 15.

 

RIMPAC to begin June 29

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Twenty-two nations, 42 ships, six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel will participate in the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise scheduled June 29 to Aug. 3, in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry led nine U.S. Navy ships that defeated and captured six British Royal Navy ships during a battle considered to be a turning point in the War of 1812.
