Public Work Environmental Division is a component of Naval Facilities Command
at NSA Naples whose mission is to ensure the NSA Naples operations comply with
laws concerning the protection of the environment.

These regulations are found in the Final Governing Standards (FGS) for Italy, which
is a document compiled from both US and Italian law and is regularly updated.
The FGS is divided into several chapters covering disposal of hazardous wastes
generated by base activity, drinking water, spill response, underground storage tank
monitoring, air emissions, and several other environmental media.

PW Environmental also has an outreach program and is continually looking for ways
to keep the NSA Naples community informed of the Navy's policy to maintain
environmental excellence and prevent pollution.

The Environmental division has also developed and implemented an Environmental
Management System (EMS) per Navy Policy guidance based on the international
norm ISO 14001 (See “EMS Policy Statement” and EMS "What you need to know”
links on this page), as a result the following four areas were indentified as requiring
more focused preventive efforts: Hazardous Materials and waste reduction, Potential
Spills reduction, Energy and Water use reduction, and Solid Waste reduction
