As an integral part of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) enterprise, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT) is the Navy's installation facility experts, managing the planning, design, and construction of shore facilities for the U.S. Navy from Maine to North Carolina. Headquartered in Norfolk, Va., they fully support the mission of Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (CNRMA) and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) to enable and enhance Navy combat power by providing the most effective, efficient and cost-wise shore services and support.

Their professional workforce includes 100 Officers and enlisted personnel, and over 3,300 civilian personnel. They deliver Best-Value Facilities Engineering and Acquisition through their Business Lines and Integrated Product Teams: Capital Improvements; Environmental; Asset Management and Public Works.

They operate with an annual Navy Working Capital Fund business volume of approximately $560 million and execute over $1.5 billion a year in construction, professional engineering and facilities services for the Navy and Marine Corps.

On Jan. 22, 2006, they expanded to include Public Works operations at Naval Station Newport, R.I., Naval Submarine Base, New London, Groton, Conn., and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Maine, as well as the North Carolina Integrated Product Team (IPT) and the ROICC (Resident Officers in Charge of Construction) offices at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.

In addition to this geographical realignment, they also aligned to a new common Public Works Department (PWD) organizational structure at each site: PWD Oceana, PWD Little Creek, PWD Portsmouth, PWD Yorktown, PWD Norfolk, PWD Naval Support Activity (NSA) Norfolk, PWD Pennsylvania and PWD Earle, N. J., and at each of the new Northeast sites: PWD Maine, PWD Newport and PWD New London. This transformation is part of NAVFAC's aggressive plan to dramatically transform its global engineering, acquisition, and public works organization.

They continually seek to improve response times, reduce backlog and carryover, ensure adequate return on investment, reduce unneeded infrastructure, improve safety, and ensure environmental compliance.
