NORFOLK, Va. -- The Naval Safety Center (NAVSAFECEN) offers resources to help manage driving risks. Fiscal year 2011 was the safest on record in terms of four-wheel motor vehicle fatalities. Car and truck operators did a great job of managing the risks of driving. However, mid-way through the second quarter of FY2012, fatalities are in danger of creeping back up.

The security incident at the Naval Health Clinic New England – Newport compound onboard Naval Station Newport remains under investigation. The lone shooter has been identified as a black female who was brandishing a pistol, entered a building on board the clinic compound at approximately 8:45 a.m.

The Naval Station Newport Public Affairs Office prepares press releases, coordinates limited tours of the Naval Station, and is the command's official media contact. The Newport Navalog, the Navy's oldest newspaper, services all area commands and is published every Friday under the guidance of the Public Affairs Officer. The office also operates three channels (channels 13, 14, & 15) through a cable television station on the Newport Naval Cable Television system and media training for all local commands.
