Welcome to the Naval Air Station Patuxent River located in beautiful Southern Maryland.  Located at the mouth of the Patuxent River, Naval Air Station Patuxent River occupies approximately 14,500 acres, including its Webster Field Annex, Solomons Recreation Center and the Bloodsworth Island Range. It is one of the most beautiful and vital shore installations in existence today.

NAS Patuxent River is where the future of Naval Aviation begins. As the host of more than 50 tenant activities, including the Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division. NAS Patuxent River is home to the full spectrum of Research, Development, Acquisition, Test & Evaluation (RDAT&E) for all of Naval Aviation.

After just a few days on the installation, the latest member of Pax River's security force knows his job, and loves every minute of it. Bleck, a four-year-old German shepherd bred and trained as a detection dog by the U. S. Air Force, arrived this week after months of training at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

University of Maryland co-op receives student of the year award

Engineering student Wesley Wathen from the University of Maryland, College Park, received the UMD Outstanding Co-op/Intern Award April 19 for academic achievement and his work at Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division facilities at Webster Outlying Field, St. Inigoes.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society celebrates National Volunteer Week

The Patuxent River Office of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society celebrated National Volunteer Week at a luncheon hosted by Rear Adm. Patrick J. Lorge on April 19 at the Army Navy Country Club. The luncheon recognized volunteers from the three offices operating in the National Capitol Region, which includes offices at NAS Patuxent River, the Washington Navy Yard and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. The theme, "Volunteers: Our good fortune since 1904," highlighted the history of assistance to Navy and Marine Corps families by Society volunteers for more than 108 years.

STARBASE 2.0 brings competition to Spring Ridge

NAS Patuxent River // May 3, 2012

STARBASE 2.0 teams of students and mentors are competing at Spring Ridge Middle School in Lexington Park in a Scalextric4Schools competition between themselves to determine an overall champion for their school. Each team used CAD 3D software to design their own car bodies, which were then manufactured and attached to Scalextric car chassis. Students practice to try to receive the best overall race time and/or best lap time when running a three-lap race. The team with the best overall challenge packet, including race times, a marketing poster and PowerPoint presentation, will be entered in a virtual National Competition against other team winners from 12 other STARBASE 2.0 Programs in the United States. SRMS has 23 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and 10 mentors participating, for a total of 10 teams that will be competing against each other. Final judging will take place on May 9 and the winning team will be announced at their last session, May 23.

Pax River named Tree City USA again

Because of NAS Patuxent River's continued commitment to the environment, and trees in particular, the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the installation a Tree City USA community for the 23rd year in a row. To celebrate, members of the installation's environmental division planted a Red Maple at the Harpers Creek II pavilion.
