Pax Named Tree City USABecause of NAS Patuxent River's continued commitment to the environment, and trees in particular, the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the installation a Tree City USA community for the 23rd year in a row. To celebrate, members of the installation's environmental division planted a Red Maple at the Harpers Creek II pavilion.

NMCRS celebrates National Volunteer WeekThe Patuxent River Office of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society celebrated National Volunteer Week at a luncheon hosted by Rear Adm. Patrick J. Lorge on April 19 at the Army Navy Country Club. The luncheon recognized volunteers from the three offices operating in the National Capitol Region, which includes offices at NAS Patuxent River, the Washington Navy Yard and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. The theme, "Volunteers: Our good fortune since 1904," highlighted the history of assistance to Navy and Marine Corps families by Society volunteers for more than 108 years.

Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River earns Joint Commission CertificationNaval Health Clinic Patuxent River successfully completed its survey by the Joint Commission on March 6-8, TJC surveyors announced during their out-brief on March 8. Inspectors from the Joint Commission, based in Chicago, Ill., completed their three-day inspection of Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River and its three Branch Health Clinics at Indian Head, Md; Dahlgren, Va., and Joint Base Andrews, Md.

Fauxtesters test security for Solid Curtain/Citadel ShieldAs part of this week's Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield exercise, a group of Pax River volunteers staged protest demonstrations at Gate 2 on Monday morning and at Gate 1 on Tuesday morning. While waving signs and shouting antiwar and antigovernment sentiments, the imitation protesters fielded a few impassioned counter-protests from drivers traveling northbound on Route 235.
