Captain Terry Auberry is a native of Princeton, Indiana. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1974 and graduated recruit basic training at Great Lakes, IL in July 1974. He completed Mineman “A” school in Charleston, SC and officially joined the Navy’s Mine Force in August 1974.
Following “A” school, he reported to Commander, Mobile Mine Assembly Group (COMOMAG), Charleston, SC. During this time he made continuous deployments to mine and ordnance shops in Sigonella, Italy; Souda Bay, Greece; Campbeltown, Scotland and supported over twenty-five mining exercises, working with numerous patrol squadrons, mine sweepers, amphibious assault ships and aircraft carriers.
In July 1983 CAPT Auberry attended Mineman “C” school, MK 67 Submarine Launched Mobile Mine School, MK 60 Captor School, Basic Electricity School and Test Repair School at the Fleet Mine Warfare Training Center, Charleston, SC. The highlight of this tour was being selected as the 1984 Mineman of the Year.
CAPT Auberry was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer (LDO), Surface Ordnance, in September 1984. He was again assigned to COMOMAG for both staff duties and deployments as Officer-In-Charge (OIC), MOMAG Detachment Six, Souda Bay, Greece. In June 1986 he reported to MOMAG Detachment Two, Machrihanish, Scotland as OIC. This was followed by a tour as Commanding Officer, MOMAG Unit Eight, Guam starting in May 1989. In July 1991 he was selected for the College Degree Program, and assigned to The Citadel, Charleston, SC.
After graduation, CAPT Auberry assumed duties as COMOMAG Operations Officer in Charleston, SC. In June 1993 he reported as Assistant Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Mining at Commander, Mine Warfare Command, Corpus Christi, TX. His next tour was as Deputy Program Manager for Conventional Ordnance in Crane, IN.
In March 1999 CAPT Auberry was assigned as the ACOS Ordnance/Ordnance Officer at Commander, US Naval Forces, Marianas, Guam. He assumed duties as COMOMAG, Corpus Christi, TX in September 2001. In June 2004 he reported as Regional Security Director, Navy Region Mid Atlantic, Norfolk, VA. His last assignment was as Chief of Staff, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, Corpus Christi, TX.
His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with four gold stars, the Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars, the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star and the Good Conduct Medal with bronze star. CAPT Auberry graduated with honors from Charleston Southern University, Charleston, SC with majors in Management and Economics and from Texas A & M with an MBA. He was also selected to the Navy’s Acquisition Professional community in 1999.
