Fitness and Sports
Athletic endeavors are an important part of the Navy's culture of fitness. NAS JRB has several facilities available for organized and "pick-up" competitions, and we are currently working to expand our facilities.

Fitness Center & Gymnasium

The base fitness center is a "state of the art" facility equipped with a full assortment of cardio equipment, free weights and selectorized weight equipment for a total body workout. The gymnasium features two side courts for basketball/volleyball within the full-length hardwood floor basketball court. The fitness center has an aerobics room, a racquetball court, wallyball court and family fitness parent area where the kids can play while mom or dad watch them while they workout. The fitness center is equipped with full showers and locker room facilities. Dry saunas are located in the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Scheduled aerobics classes, spin classes and other like classes are offered. The fitness center offers personalized training and family fitness instruction and classes. Two running trails are available with distances ranging from one-half mile to five miles.
The fitness center also offers a year-round schedule of tournaments and leagues. All tenant commands are eligible to participate in the “Captain’s Cup” competition for athletic supremacy among the military commands in the New Orleans area. The center’s staff is happy to assist with organizing games or matches; i.e., racquetball, softball, basketball or softball games.
Available at the fitness center:
• selectorized equipment with 22 individual stations which strengthens all major groups with free orientation;
• complete line of free weights including dumbbells, a variety of benches, a gravitron and a cable crossover;
• cardiovascular items include: treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, three different kinds of bikes, stair climbers. Theater TV sound is available on must cardio equipment. There is a Krank Cycle and Matrix Functional trainer available for wounded warriors and disable.
• athletic gear issue includes towels; weight belts; racquetball rackets, balls and safety eyewear; tennis rackets; basketballs; volleyballs; softball equipment and gloves; and party bags (includes volleyball, horseshoes, softball);
• Gatorade, water, and a variety of Arizona Tea products for sale;
• courts include racquetball, basketball, volleyball, and Wallyball;
• men & women’s locker rooms and saunas.
Sports Complex Field
The Sports Complex is under construction. When completed the Sports Complex will feature two standard size tennis courts, softball and football/soccer fields, a 1/4 mile track, and restrooms. In addition, a pavilion and playground will be available. All will have lights for night time use.
Athletic Field
Located between bldg 456 (Fitness Center) and Bldg 410 (Liberty Center) is the main mutli-purpose field with lights for softball and football, small playground area for the kids and a concession area with restrooms.
Swimming Pool

Traditionally, the pool is open Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day. The pool is 25-yards, L-shaped, with a water slide, children’s water park and wading pool. Swimming lessons are available during select periods in the summer. Military lap swim is Tuesday through Friday, 6-8 a.m. and 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Recreational swim is available seven days a week. The pool may be rented for special functions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after normal operating hours. Swim class registration and pool pass purchase can be done at the pool during their hours of operation. Summer thunderstorms will impact hours of operation.
