Captain Shevchuk is a native of Woodburn, Ore., and graduated from Oregon State University in 1988. After receiving his commission as an Ensign through the Reserve Officer Training Corps, he completed flight training in Pensacola, Fla., Corpus Christi and Kingsville, Texas, where he was designated as a Naval Aviator in 1991. He is currently serving as Commanding Officer for Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.

Captain Shevchuk reported to Attack Squadron (VA) 145 in 1992 after initial A-6E Intruder training. He deployed aboard USS Ranger (CV 61) in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and RESTORE HOPE performing duties as a maintenance department branch officer. In 1993 he joined the Eagles of Attack Squadron (VA) 115 in Atsugi, Japan, and deployed aboard USS Independence (CV-62), performing duties as Personnel Officer and Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) Officer.

In 1995, Captain Shevchuk returned to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash., and reported to Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129 for initial training in the EA-6B Prowler. After deploying to Iwakuni, Japan, with Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133 as the Aircraft Division Officer, he rejoined the EA-6B Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) as a flight instructor in 1997. He was the FRS' Assistant Electronic Warfare Officer, led the Safety Department, and supported Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 138 as a pilot augmentee for Operation ALLIED FORCE in 1999.

Captain Shevchuk then served as the Safety, Maintenance and Operations Officer with Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 128 during his tour as a department head. He flew in numerous Red Flag exercises with the Fighting Phoenix and deployed to Turkey and Saudi Arabia as a strike mission commander for Operations NORTHERN and SOUTHERN WATCH. He began a joint assignment in 2001 with the Intelligence Directorate of U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) in Stuttgart, Germany, coordinating requirements and ultimately serving as Intelligence Production Chief.

In 2004, Captain Shevchuk reported to the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Penn., where he earned a Master of Strategic Studies degree. Upon graduation in 2005 he was assigned as the Executive Officer of Training Squadron (VT) 7 in Meridian, Miss., flying the T-45C Goshawk. He assumed command of the VT-7 Eagles in 2006.

Following his command tour, he volunteered for duty as an Individual Augmentee, supporting the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) in Balad, Iraq, as an Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) in 2008. As Division EWO he supervised six Brigade and 25 Battalion EWOs for nine months in the Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosives Device mission.

Captain Shevchuk joined the staff of Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) in 2009 as CJ3 Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training in Naples, Italy. He was the Current Operations Director for the NATO Response Force (NRF) 12 Maritime Component Commander (MCC) in 2009, at the Joint Task Force level during Exercise BALTOPS in 2010, and for the Coalition Force MCC during JTFEX 11-4 in 2011.

Captain Shevchuk assumed command of Naval Air Station Patuxent River April 4, 2013.

His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Navy Achievement Medals, and various campaign and unit awards.
