Resources

The Public Works Department supports NAS Whiting Field and Training Air Wing FIVE by efficiently and responsively managing station facilities and infrastructure. Services provided by the department include: infrastructure planning and programming, facilities management, construction, transportation management, environmental engineering, land resources management, energy/utility management, and military housing administration.

The department executes facility maintenance, construction, refuse collection, and custodial services through the award and administration of contracts with selected private-sector contractors. The largest of these is the Base Operating Services (BOS) contractor, which provides the majority of day-to-day base maintenance and various other facilities services. Construction contracting performed with contractors other than the BOS contractor is accomplished through the local ROICC (Resident Officer In-Charge of Contracts) detachment of Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

The Public Works Officer, a Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer, leads a staff of 28 civilians who provide engineering, technical, and management expertise and one enlisted sailor who manage the Self-help Division.

The Public Works Department main office is located in Bldg.1416 at 7183 Langley Street. The Housing Referral Office is located in the Whiting Pines Housing area at 570 Merrill Drive, Milton and the Self-help Division is located in Bldg. 1441 on Yorktown Street.
