Captain Morris Oxendine is a native of Fairmont, N.C. He enlisted in October 1982, and completed Recruit Basic Training, and Seaman Apprenticeship training at the NAVAL TRAINING CENTER in Orlando, F.L.
His enlisted assignments include USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), USS SYLVANIA (AFS-2), Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Raleigh, N.C., USS HAYLER (DD-997), and USS ELROD (FFG-55).
He was commissioned an Ensign through the Navy’s Limited Duty Officer program in October of 1996.
In November 1996, CAPT Oxendine reported to USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3) as Assistant First Lieutenant, earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation and qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW).
Subsequent sea tours include USS OAK HILL (LSD-51), USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7), and USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75). His shore assignments include the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), Assault Craft Unit TWO, Center for Surface Combat Systems, Naval Station Norfolk Port Operations, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Port Operations, Naval Beach Group TWO, and Military Sealift Command.
CAPT Oxendine’s command tours include Transient Personnel Unit (TPU) Great Lakes, Illinois and Naval Beach Unit SEVEN in Sasebo, Japan.
He is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (6 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (8 awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (7 awards), various service, unit and campaign awards.
He holds a Masters in Management from American Military University and a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College and holds a certificate in Homeland Security.
