NATO Communications and Information Systems School (NCISS)
The mission of NCISS is:
Provide cost-effective highly developed formal training to personnel (military & civilian) from NATO as well as non-NATO Nations for the efficient operation and maintenance of those NATO Communication and Information Systems assigned to NCISS for instruction.
Conduct orientation and management training on NATO CIS for selected (Staff) personnel. Within the Systems Approach to Training Methodology, conduct Course Design & Development, and Internal Evaluation for those courses assigned to and delivered by NCISS. When requested by ACT (JET) or NCSA HQ, assistance is provided with the External Evaluation process and contribute professional expertise to NATO projects and related training matters.
NCISS American Community
The NCISS American Community is a small group of dedicated Joint Service members, who perform various duties. Our Senior National Representative (SNR) is U.S. Army O-4. His role is to provide leadership, support, and guidance to all U.S. service members. Along with our SNR we also have a Senior Enlisted Leader who currently a U.S. Navy E-7 who provides mentorship, and support to our Joint service members. Together we aim to exemplify our Service’s core values and our Nation.
The Navy (Naval Support Activities Naples) provides support to all U.S. and NATO personnel in the region. Located at the Navy Support Site at Gricignano is a Navy Lodge, commissary, Naval Exchange, food court, movie theatre, gym, hospital with medical and dental clinics, motor vehicle registration office, and transportation office. Located at the Capodichino base is a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites, legal office, other administrative support, a small Naval Exchange, and a variety of fast food.
A small National Support Element provides local administrative support to the service members stationed in Latina. The NSE consists of a Program Manager (civilian), Navy administration clerk, and a local national liaison.
Joint Forces Command (JFC) is located in the heart of Naples. Located here is Navy Support Element (NSE) Naples, Allied Forces South (AF South) Army Battalion, and the Air Force Detachment. Here, also, is located the Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command. All administrative support for the Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel stationed at the NATO Communication and Information Systems School in Latina is provided by the units at JFC.
Things to do in Latina
If you have a son/daughter who desires to play soccer, basketball, baseball, Martial Arts, tennis, or run track they will be able to participate in some sport located in Latina. Practice times may vary depending on the sport.
Travel to Rome
Latina is located just an hour south of Rome where your family can take the regional train located on the outskirts of the city for about 4 euros or drive your car to visit all the historical sites. There you can also enjoy the nightlife.
Travel in the Local area (within 50-100 miles of Latina)
Latina is centrally located and while most attention by visitors is focused in Rome, the area has a large choice of local tourist sites and world known sites, the list includes: a Chocolate factory and museum, 2 medieval walled cities, Botanic gardens, Greek temples, Lakes, National parks with mountain trails and a lighthouse with a park area by the sea. Within a 2 hour drive, you can visit other sites, most notably the Tuscany region. The closest Armed Forces Recreation area is located in Livorno which is just about 3.5 hours drive away.
Things to see in Latina
Latina has two water parks that open for summer months. They are centrally located and NATO receives discounts on tickets.

Latina has several areas where you can walk on the beach or swim.
Latina has several areas to shop. A few popular stores include Panorama (Wal-Mart), Euronics (Best Buy), Bricofer (Lowes), OBI (Home Depot), and Iper Sidis (Groceries). There are 2 main shopping malls in the area, one is located in the center of Latina and the other about 30 minute drive in Aprilia, they both have an assortment of stores and a food court area that includes locations from American style restaurant to a wood fired oven Pizzeria.
One consideration is that any over the counter medication must be purchased at a Farmacia (Drug Store) only, so any cold/flu or headache medicine will need to be purchased at a specific store, on that regard, some over the counter pain medication in Europe might contain ingredients that are not approved for use in the USA so careful consideration must be taken if purchasing medications locally.
