Language and Culture

The Navy Center for Language, Regional Expertise and Culture (CLREC) in Pensacola, Florida, is tasked with providing cultural awareness and language familiarization training to the Navy Total Force.

Whether you are stationed overseas or preparing for deployment, CLREC helps prepare you, your family, and your command for vital international engagements, short port visits, or living overseas.

CLREC offers an array of training options and product support to introduce the basics of foreign cultures and introductory-level language skills to lessen the severity of culture shock in theater.  A baseline of cultural understanding and the ability to communicate simple phrases reduces culture shock, enhances mission effectiveness, and reduces cultural miscues that can lead to personal stress, organizational challenges, or failure of the Liberty Mission.

CLREC provides cultural awareness and language familiarization training to the Navy Total Force at no cost to the unit or individual.  As an OPNAV-sponsored program, CLREC provides training pursuant to OPNAVINST 3500.38B CH-1 Universal Naval Task List (UNTL) NTA 4.8.5 “Maintain Cultural Awareness” and NAVADMIN 286/11 dated 261804Z Sep 2011.

Understanding the culture of the countries where you operate, and the foreign partners you engage, is a critical enabler to mission success, and the Navy Center for LREC is your one-stop shop for those training solutions.
