Command Master Chief Maurice Coffey is a native of Chicago, Ill. Upon graduation from Lindblom Technical High School in Chicago, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1989.
In September 1989, Master Chief completed Boot Camp at Recruit Training Center San Diego, CA. He reported to Air Traffic Control "A" School, Millington, TN., where he graduated second in his class and was selected to attend Carrier Air Traffic Control Center (CATCC) "C" School. His first assignment was to USS MIDWAY (CV 41) Yokosuka, Japan. His other sea duty assignments include USS WASP (LHD-1), Norfolk, VA., and USS ESSEX (LHD-2), Sasebo, Japan.
His shore duty assignments include Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA., instructor duty at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Pensacola, FL., and Naval Air Station Pensacola,
His command tours include Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE ONE FIVE (VAW-115), Naval Air Facility, Atsugi, Japan, deploying with Carrier Air Wing FIVE aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73), the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, North Chicago, IL., U.S. Naval Hospital Naples, Italy, and most recently as the Command Master Chief of the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73).
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Good Conduct Medal (ten awards), and various unit, service and campaign awards. He is authorized to wear the Enlisted Air Warfare, Enlisted Surface Warfare and the Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare pins. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Professional Aeronautics in May 2006, his Master's in Aeronautical Science in July 2010 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a second Master's in Public Service Management from DePaul University March 2018. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class NR-14) and the CMC/COB Course.
