Commander, Navy Region Japan Fire and Emergency Services Sasebo won the award for United States Navy Large Fire Department of the Year 2017.
The award recognizes the most outstanding fire departments in the Navy for achieving the highest degree of excellence in mission support and fire protection management.
F & ES nominees are judged on a number of parameters including performance, certifications, outreach, training and innovation. This criteria was developed by the Department of Defense F & ES Working Group comprised of the chiefs of the services’ programs.
“We always strive for excellence. We will continue to come up with new and innovative ways to provide Fire & Emergency services to the military and civilians living and working here at CFAS,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jared Whittemore. “Our Training program is constantly working to develop a highly motivated and trained workforce. Our Fire Prevention division is second to none. The Fire Prevention division works tirelessly to ensure that facilities are up to code and that fire safety is a top priority here at CFAS.”
CNRJ Sasebo also earned the award in 2015.
Fire Chief John Adkins will formally receive the award from Commander, Navy Installations Command on behalf of his F & ES in May.
