Family housing in the Northeast Region converted to Public-Private Venture (PPV). The overall goal of PPV is to provide high quality housing with no out of pocket expense. Residents will be required to sign a lease and pay rent (which includes utilities and renters' insurance) which will be set at the Service Member's basic allowance for housing (BAH) rate. Rent includes a $20,000 personal property policy. You should review this amount of coverage to determine if it is sufficient to replace your belongings.
The Navy recommends that tenants living in privatized housing seriously consider the issue of insurance. There are two types of insurance of which you should be aware: renter's insurance and liability insurance. Renter's insurance covers your personal property. Liability insurance covers damage to the structure you are renting. All families are encouraged to obtain renter's and liability insurance.
