Welcome Aboard

From the Captain’s Desk

Welcome to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans! Whether you are here for a day or for a full tour of duty, I think you will agree that NAS JRB New Orleans has a lot to offer.

NAS JRB is a dynamic military installation with three Naval Air Squadrons, the Louisiana Air National Guard, three Marine Forces Reserve groups, Coast Guard Air Station and the Army Reserve's 377th TSS as well as several other tenant commands. In all, more than 7,500 people live, work, or drill here.

As the recipient of the 2002 Conway Trophy for Shore Installation Excellence, it has been recognized as one of the outstanding shore installations in the country. Hundreds of new housing units have been erected as part of the Navy’s finest Public Private Venture (PPV) project and NAS JRB is also home to the Navy’s first charter school built on a military base, Belle Chasse Academy.

Additionally, New Orleans is a vibrant area with activities and sights that you will remember for the rest of your life. NAS JRB is within a 20-minute drive from such fascinating landmarks as the Historic French Quarter, the Audobon Zoo and Aquarium, numerous museums and famous plantations. Louisiana is also called a “sportsman’s paradise” for good reason; hunting and fishing opportunities abound. And when you consider the wonderful area cuisine, Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, the Essence Festival, numerous other weekend festivals, quality universities and community colleges – I think you will agree that New Orleans is a great place to be stationed.

This website contains a great deal of information about the base and tenant commands, the services available to our military members, primary points of contact, and places of interest in the local area. I hope you find it useful as you prepare to transition to the area. Welcome aboard!
