Unaccompanied housing (UH) facilities are government-owned and managed housing.  The only utilities you pay are cable TV, Internet and landline telephone – if you want them.  In return, your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) will stop.

Naval Support Facility Dahlgren UH, formerly known as Bachelor Housing, houses approximately 246 Service Members in two buildings: Building 962 and 959.  Our UH staff will determine and explain your eligibility and housing options.  Most personnel, E1-E3 and E4 < 4, will be required to live in UH.  More senior personnel may, under certain circumstances, be eligible to live in UH, but are expected to reside in the local community.

Upon assignment to UH, the front desk staff will schedule a time for your UH indoctrination and joint assignment inspection.  All of our rooms are assigned in a clean, well-maintained state and are fully furnished.  The purpose of the joint inspection is to document the status of the room and furnishings at the time of check-in.  During your stay, it is your responsibility to promptly report all maintenance problems and required repairs.  When you check-out, you will conduct a joint termination inspection with the front desk staff to document the status at check-out.  Your front desk staff will explain the process during indoctrination.

Naval Support Facility Dahlgren UH is conveniently located near the main gate of the base on 17410 Potomac Inn Road.  Walking distance to Grays Landing (formerly the galley), chapel, gym, Liberty Center, bowling alley, the Navy Exchange and Commissary, Building 962 serves as the check-in point for both buildings.  Linen is provided at check-in.

The Potomac Inn at 17410 Potomac Inn Road is a military billeting facility, with accommodations for 198 permanent party bachelor enlisted residents.  The front desk is located in Building 962; the hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  All military personnel must check in at the front desk prior to being assigned a room.  Each occupant resides in a private room equipped with a twin size bed, desk/desk chair, dresser, nightstand and walk-in closet.  They share a bathroom and kitchen area, equipped with stove, microwave, refrigerator, washer/dryer, iron/ironing board, vacuum cleaner, and cleaning kit.  Videos and assorted games are available in the entrance lobby for our residents at no additional cost.  For further information, please contact our front desk at (540) 653-2307/2308.

As an added convenience to residents, there are lounges equipped with televisions and vending machines.

We have a number of rules and regulations designed to keep the UH community a safe and comfortable place for all residents.  You will be provided a copy of Naval Support Facility Dahlgren Instruction NSASPINST 11103.2 during indoctrination, which explains all of the rules and regulations for the operation of UH.  We try to keep the rules as reasonable and unobtrusive as possible and expect everyone to abide by them.

Resident Advisors (RA) are senior personnel who provide an after-hours leadership presence to UH residents.  RAs sign a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to certain duties and responsibilities in exchange for a room in UH.  The program is strictly voluntary and open to personnel in pay grades E5 to E9 (E4 with their commanding officer’s recommendation) including Geographic Bachelors (GB).  For more information about the RA program and to obtain an application, please contact the UH HSC.

GBs are personnel ordered to Naval Support Facility Dahlgren who, by choice or circumstance, have decided that their dependents will continue to live in another geographic area.  GBs are receiving BAH at the with dependents rate.  They are not normally authorized to live in UH; however, we do have a limited number of spaces available for GBs.  GBs must submit an application that will be reviewed by the Assignment Review Board.  If approved, the GB will be placed on the waiting list and offered UH when it becomes available.  GBs may also apply to be RAs.  For more information about the GB program and to obtain an application, please contact the HSC.
