WASHINGTON, DC - When was the last time one simple decision you made benefitted you in more than one way? Well, if you ride the L’Enfant Plaza to Washington Navy Yard (WNY) Shuttle, that’s exactly what happens.

Numbers don’t lie. If you commute to the Navy Yard Metro Station, you can save yourself $86 and a 28-mile walk per month by utilizing the shuttle service. So, good news shuttle riders: you will continue to have the option to ride the shuttle to and from L’Enfant Plaza for another year. Various tenant commands within Naval Support Activity Washington (NSAW) monetarily contributed in order to keep the wheels turning on the shuttle service between two stops on the WNY and L’Enfant Plaza.

This shuttle service was first made available to the Washington Navy Yard June 2015 and will now continue through May 2017.

With approximately 18,000 people commuting to the WNY every day, public transit options to accommodate the commuters are vital. The shuttles average 2,000 rides a day, so it’s fair to say it’s popular.

The L’Enfant to WNY shuttle isn’t just convenient, it has quite a few other benefits for users: provides safety; saves the user a long walk, money and time.

By effectively decreasing the amount of cars on the road, coming through NSAW’s various entry control points (ECP), and parking on the WNY, the service not only has a positive effect on the environment but also eases the strain for parking on the Yard and traffic at ECPs. This initiative is just one way NSAW is supporting the shore-based great green fleet efforts the Navy launched this year.

“We want to help change the energy culture of those that work on the Yard, which is why NSAW and other tenant commands have partnered to continue this shuttle service. Using the many mass transit options available is one way the individual can contribute to improving the environment,” said NSAW Executive Officer Lt. Cmdr. John Liddle.

NSAW is dedicated to providing safety, security, and the best possible working environment for our tenant commands.
