NSAW Proposed Land Purchase

The Navy proposes to purchase approximately four acres of land at the Southeast Federal Center (SEFC) adjacent to the northwest area of the Washington Navy Yard.  The Navy is considering options for the site including contstruction of a new National Museum of the United States Navy, which is currently located inside the Navy Yard.

PROJECT SITE DESCRPTION

  • Outside the northwest area of the Washington Navy Yard and bounded by M Street to the north, Navy Yard to the east, Tingey Street to the south, and commercial development to the west
  • Land is owned by the General Services Administration (GSA); Forest City Washington owns exclusive development rights
  • Mostly open and undeveloped, notable features include Building 74 (a two-story historic structure built in 1939) an asphalt parking lot, an electrical substation, and the historic Navy Yard wall
