Entering Naval Air Station Patuxent River can be confusing for first-time visitors. Be prepared to show your government ID upon reaching the entry control point.
There are three entry gates to the station, all accessible from Route 235, also known as Three Notch Road, in Lexington Park.
The NAS Public Safety Pass Offices provide various services to Pax River residents, employees and visitors. The offices are only open Monday through Friday, except on holidays, with the hours listed below. Please make advance arrangements and expect delays of up to two hours.
Location:Intersection of Pegg Road and Route 235. Two left-hand lanes on Route 235 will guide you into Gate 1. Landmarks: office complexes on both sides of the road and the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum on the left side.
Hours: Open 24/7
During the morning rush hour commute (5:30-8:30 a.m. weekdays), Gate 1 has four inbound lanes and no outbound lane. The normal inbound/outbound traffic configuration at Gate 1 resumes at 8:30 a.m.
Services: The Gate 1 Pass Office is currently closed due to manning constraints. It is not known when the Gate 1 Pass Office will be reopened.
Location:Approximately 3/4 mile south of Gate 1, also on the left-hand side of Route 235, when heading south. Landmarks: offices and businesses on the right side of the road, and fence line on the left. The fence marks the boundary of NAS Patuxent River. After passing Shangri-La Drive, there are two lanes to the left entering the base. If you do not need to stop at the Pass and ID office, you may enter Gate 2 at this point.
Hours: 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. Closed weekends and holidays.
For the morning rush hour commute, Gate 2 has three inbound lanes and one outbound lane from 6-9 a.m. weekdays. The normal inbound/outbound traffic configuration at Gate 2 resumes at 9 a.m.
Services: The Gate 2 Pass Office is immediately to your right after making the turn onto the base. It is open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, closed holidays and weekends.
Issuance of visitor's passes and ID badges, weapons registration (see NASPAXRIVINST 5510.16K), and scheduling and arranging for special events are available during these hours. Expect wait times of up to two hours.
Additional parking for Gate 2 Pass office services is available at the Frank Knox Building; continue south past Great Mills Road and make the next left into the large parking lot. Park and walk around the east side of the building to the Gate 2 Pass and ID office.
Location: Approximately two miles south of Gate 2 on Route 235. Turn left at the intersection of Hermanville Road/Forest Park Road.
Hours: 5:30-9 a.m. weekdays for inbound and outbound traffic, and 3:30-5:30 p.m. for outbound traffic only.
Location: The gate to Navy Rec Center Solomons is located off MD Route 4
Hours: Open 24/7
Services: The NRC Pass and ID office is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
Passes for entry onto the NRC can be obtained at any of the NAS Patuxent River Pass and ID offices.
**Webster Outlying Field**Location: The main gate to Webster is located off Villa Road and is open 24/7. There is a second gate located off Beachville Road
Hours: Villa Road gate, open 24/7; Beachville Road gate, opne 6-8 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. weekdays.
Services: There are no services available at the Webster gates. Passes for entry onto Webster Outlying Field can be obtained at any of the NAS Patuxent River Pass and ID offices.
NCACS/RAPID ID holders must present a second form of ID to gain access. NCACS/RAPID Gate ID cards will show "RAPIDgate Program Vendor" on the bottom of the card. This change does not apply to Common Access Card (CAC) holders (military/civilian/NAF) or TESLIN series ID Card holders (retirees/dependents).
