The Navy Galley Program served more than 30 million meals in 74 ashore galleys and three rations-in-kind  Morale, Welfare and Recreation-run operations in 2009.

The Ashore Core Menu initiative was launched in 2009 to meet all required menu-planning standards and to standardize core menu items throughout all ashore galleys. This effort will provide cost savings, improved nutritional content, a reduction of items required within the load list and raise customer acceptability.

Grand openings in Okinawa (All Hands Club), Sasebo (Chili’s) and Atsugi (Whispering Pines Clubhouse at the Golf Course) reflected a robust Morale, Welfare and Recreation Food and Beverage Program. The Navy Club in Seoul and Morale, Welcome and Recreation clubs in Yokosuka took home numerous “Stars and Stripes Best of the Pacific” awards in Clubs/Food & Beverage. Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia opened a Taco Bell Express in Bahrain. Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Food and Beverage Program strengthened its partnership with the Joint Service Prime Vendor Program, adding numerous new outlets to the program, increasing purchases by 10 percent and savings by 19 percent, resulting in lower prices for customers.
