Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief 

Command Master Chief (SW) Christian Detje, a native of Danbury Connecticut, enlisted in September of 1989. He completed Recruit training and Basic Electronics School in Orlando. Upon completion, he transferred to Electronics Technician “A” School in Great Lakes, IL.

His first duty station was USS OLDENDORF (DD-972) stationed out of Japan and Long Beach and San Diego, CA. His duties included Work Center Supervisor for Communications Repair. In September 1995 he transferred to Allied Command Atlantic Communications Logistics Depot in Yorktown, VA, where he served as a high-speed data technician and installer.

He reported in January 1999 to USS O’BANNON (DD-987) homeported in Mayport, FL where he was assigned as work center supervisor and Leading Petty Officer of CE Division.  Here he earned recognition as the Sailor of the Year for Commander Naval Surface Group Two.

In August 2002 he was assigned as a Detailer for Sea Special Programs at Naval Personnel Command, where he oversaw the manning and training of numerous DDGs, LPDs and CNO Special Projects. In September of 2003 he was selected to Chief Petty Officer.

He reported in June of 2005 to USS GETTYSBURG (CG-64) homeported in Mayport, FL, where he was assigned as LCPO of CE Division and Combat Systems Department. He was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2007.  In August of 2008, he was assigned to Training Support Center Great Lakes.

From August 2009 to April of 2010, he served in Afghanistan as an Individual Augmentee (IA).  There, in April of 2010, he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.  He was selected to the Command Master Chief Program in February of 2011, upon which he attended Command Leadership School.

In 2011 Command Master Chief Detje was assigned as Command Master Chief of USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG-93).  During his service the ship completed two successful 7th Fleet Deployments, RIMPAC 2012, and multiple national and multinational exercises, culminating in CHUNG-HOON’s selection as the Battle “E” ship for DESRON 31 in 2013.

In March of 2014 He reported as the Command Master Chief of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard in Washington, DC.  He streamlined process of recruiting Sailors from Recruit Training Command to acquire the best talent available to represent the Navy before world leaders.  He worked to make this prestigious unit a resource to top leadership (POTUS, CNO and MCPONS) and to commands Navy-wide. In August of 2016 he assumed the position of Command Master Chief for Navy Recruiting Region EAST. IN August of 2018 he assumed the role as Command Master Chief of US Naval Forces Korea.

In September of 2018 He assumed the duties as a Command Master Chief of Naval Forces Korea.

Command Master Chief Detje has completed numerous deployments to the 5th Fleet, 7th Fleet, UNITAS deployments and counter narcotic drug operations. In July of 2008 he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 139). His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal(2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), along with various unit and campaign awards.
