A native of Georgetown, Illinois, Commander Ewing received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps upon graduating from the University of Illinois in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
At sea, Cmdr. Ewing has served as 1st Lieutenant aboard USS Estocin (FFG 15), as Main Propulsion Assistant aboard USS Vincennes (CG 49), as Chief Engineer aboard USS Elrod (FFG 55), as Training Officer aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), as Deputy Current Operations with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group FIVE, as Flag Secretary/Deputy N7 and Lead Exercise Planner with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO, as Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), and as Deputy N4/Training and Readiness Officer with Commander, Carrier Strike Group FIVE and Commander, Task Force 70.
Ashore, Cmdr. Ewing has served as a Division Officer Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School Command.
Cmdr. Ewing earned a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Cmdr. Ewing was awarded the FY14 Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet Surface Warfare Officer of the Year award. Other personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, but he is most proud of his unit and campaign awards because of the teamwork they represent.
