Captain Mulvehill, a native of Shelby Township, Michigan, graduated from Michigan State University.  He attended Aviation Officer Candidate School and served as a student pilot in VT-6, VT-19 and VT-7, earning his Naval Aviator designation in March 1995.

Captain Mulvehill reported to VFA-106 at NAS Cecil Field for training in the F/A-18C.  He joined the VFA-15 Valions and deployed onboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67).

In October 1998, Captain Mulvehill attended the TOPGUN Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course and then reported to Strike Fighter Weapons School, Atlantic (SFWSL).

He once again joined VFA-15 as the Training Officer during JTG 2-01 onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).  The Valions and the CVW-8 team were called upon to execute the first combat missions into Afghanistan during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  After this deployment, he was presented with the Association of Naval Aviation’s Junior Officer Leadership Award.

After an abbreviated workup cycle, CVW-8 and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) were surged to execute the opening strikes during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF).

Captain Mulvehill attended the Aviation Safety Officer Course in Monterey, CA, enroute to the VFA-105 Gunslingers and a deployment onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in support of OIF.  He then reported to the VFA-122 Flying Eagles as the Training Officer and Executive Officer.

He reported to the Argonauts of VFA-147 in August 2008 and assumed command in 2009.  He completed WESTPAC 2009 with VFA-147 and CVW-9 onboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).  VFA-147 was awarded the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy Award for the greatest improvement in Battle Efficiency.

CAPT Mulvehill attended the United States Navy War College.  He served as a Speechwriter and Special Assistant to the Commander, US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander, Europe while stationed in Mons, Belgium.  He reported in 2015 as the Executive and then Commanding Officer of Naval Base Coronado.

CAPT Mulvehill has 3,500 flight hours and over 800 carrier landings.  He has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Medal (with Combat V), Navy Commendation Medal (with Combat V) and other personal and unit awards.
