The management of personal finances has become increasingly difficult as personnel deploy in support of various operations. Deployment also creates unique financial situations for service members and their families, such as extra pay, so it is important to have a plan for the money earned. For some, the lack of basic consumer skills and training in how to prudently manage finances sets the stage for financial difficulty.
The Navy Personal Financial Management (PFM) program exists to provide education and training, information and referral services, and financial counseling to military personnel and commands. Locally, the PFM program is focused on the personal financial readiness of all Camp Lemonnier personnel by providing individual counseling and workshops on home buying, credit and debt management, saving and investing, consumer awareness, the thrift savings plan, savings deposit program, credit reports and scores, command financial specialist training and much more.
