HOMES.mil is a new official Department of Defense (DoD) website, dedicated to helping Service members, Families, and DOD civilians find housing.
All incoming families will have the option to live in military family housing (MFH) or in the economy. Depending on arrival time frame, government housing may not be immediately available.
MFH consists of townhouse type quarters with small fenced rear yards. Storage is limited. Refrigerator, dishwasher, washer and dryer are provided. Units have central heat and air conditioning, AFN cable, basic phone service, ADSL internet service, and 110/220 volts. Be advised that Italy's electricity runs on 50 Hz vice 60 Hz (US). Only two (2) pets (dog, cat, or combination) are permitted in family housing. We have one housing area location, consisting of 3 & 4 bedroom units for all grade categories. DoD civilians will reside in the economy.
Government housing is probably smaller than what you are accustomed to in the United States. Our quarters' size average from 1,354 (3-bedroom) to 1,495 (4-bedroom) square feet. Please adjust your household goods shipment accordingly and place non-essential items in non-temporary storage before leaving your duty station.
Bachelors Housing: All unaccompanied E1-E3 will be housed in bachelor housing and E4s, as space is currently available. Geographic bachelor housing space is limited. Please call the Housing Department before you ship any household goods if you are on unaccompanied orders and work with your sponsor before arrival. It is important you communicate at your earliest convenience with your sponsor regarding this important overseas quality of life initiative.
Economy Housing: All Personnel who will be required to lease a property from the local community must have a valid tourist or No Fee passport on hand upon arrival at NAS Sigonella. Sicilian rental homes are not carpeted, run on 220V (50Hz) electricity, and may not include closets or appliances. Full tour supplemental furnishings are provided: stove, refrigerator, washer/dryer, microwave, wardrobes and transformers. Loaner Furniture: Once a member moves into an economy or government home, loaner furniture, such as beds, sofas, lamps, tables, etc., are available for up to 90 days while awaiting household goods shipment.
TLA: Upon arrival to Sigonella, Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) will be authorized (up to 60 days) while awaiting assignment to government housing or while searching for a home in the economy. Accommodations must be made with the Navy Lodge for accompanied personnel and with Navy Gateway Inns & Suites unaccompanied personnel. TLA will not be authorized for an economy/off base hotel unless a certificate of Non-Availability (CNA) has been issued. Be advised that TLA does not cover pet fees and rental cars.
Members arriving in Sigonella are required to visit the Housing Department, no later than 48 hours after their arrival, to complete a housing application and be briefed on their housing entitlements and the availability of MFH and bachelor housing. A copy of the member's orders and Page 2 updated by the local PSD are required.

Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (UPH) Overview
Bachelor Housing (BH) accommodations are for E1 through E3 unaccompanied personnel, including geographical bachelors (E1-E3). E4 personnel will be mandatorily assigned to BH when space is available.
Service members may be assigned to a permanent party room immediately upon their arrival. Due to the standard size of the rooms, service members should not ship Household Goods to Sigonella. Geographical bachelors E5 and above should expect to live in the economy.
Incoming service members or their sponsor are encouraged to contact the Housing Welcome Center in advance, to arrange for a "door-to-door" move. If space is not immediately available, the service member may be required to stay at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS). If this temporary lodging is necessary, the service member will be entitled to a temporary lodging allowance (TLA) to cover these costs. If lodged in NGIS, the service member is required to report to the Housing Welcome Center for permanent assignment within one working day. TLA entitlements are not to exceed three nights.
NAS Sigonella Bachelor Housing facilities are located on two bases (NAS I & NAS II), located seven miles apart. Assignment is based on availability, and there is no guarantee that residents will live on the same base where they work. Upon BH check-in, the service member will receive a short briefing on "Life in Sigonella" in order to smooth the arrival process. A complete Welcome Aboard package with pertinent information is also provided in our rooms.
BH standard rooms are:
- 1+1 layout: private bedroom with shared kitchen and bathroom
- 1+0 layout: private bedroom with private kitchen and bathroom
Laundry rooms equipped with free washers and dryers are available in all BH facilities. All BH rooms are equipped with microwaves and refrigerators. Most are also equipped with stovetops. Assigned rooms are outfitted with bed linen (mattress pad, sheets, pillow, pillow protector & case, blanket, and bedspread).
The BH Welcome Center can be reached at DSN (314) 624-4311, ext. 143 / 144 or commercial 011-39-095-56-4311, ext. 143 / 144.
