Transition Assistance

Whether you're retiring, going back to school, or looking for a new career, success requires planning and resources. The focus of the Transition GPS (Goals, Plans, success)is to ensure that our service men and women have the skills, talents, and knowledge they need to smoothly transition to civilian life.

Transition assistance services provide separating/retiring service members and their families with the skills, tools and self-confidence necessary to successfully re-enter into the civilian work force.

The goal of the program is to provide professional career development resources throughout the career lifecycle.  Per OPNAVINST 1900.2 (Series) and Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, every Sailor is eligible for and will have full access to transition services and must meet Career Readiness Standards prior to separation.

Services and benefits available to separating service members include vocational/ education counseling; job referrals; company recruitments; CONSEP 1st Term Accelerator and Mid-Career Workshops; and Separation and Retirement Transition Assistance seminars. The Separation and Retirement Transition Assistance seminar is a four-day workshop for pre-retirement or pre-separation military members. It covers resume writing, interviewing skills, salary negotiations, military benefits, and other topics that facilitate a smooth transition to the next stage of your life.
