Captain Todd Abrahamson


Commanding Officer, Naval Support Activity Naples

Captain Abrahamson is a native of Santa Monica, California. He graduated from UCLA in 1992 with ahelor of Arts degree in Political Science and commissioned through the ROTC program. He earned his Wings of Gold in October 1995 in Meridian Mississippi and received orders to fly the F/A-18C Hornet in El Toro, California.

In March 1997, he joined the “Fist of the Fleet” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 25, based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, deploying aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72).

Following his tour with VFA 25, Captain Abrahamson returned to VMFAT 101, as an instructor pilot. While there, he was selected to the “Blue Angels” in 2001, and flew the right wing position (#2) during the 2002 and 2003 show seasons.

Following his tour with the Blue Angels, he reported to VFA 27, “The Royal Maces,” in Atsugi, Japan from 2004-2005 deploying aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63); where he served as the squadron’s Administration, Maintenance and Operations Officer Department Head.

In October 2005, Captain Abrahamson was in residence at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, earning a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He was then assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) J3 Division at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Casteau, Belgium, where he worked on NATO operations in Afghanistan. During his joint tour, Captain Abrahamson deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan with the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Captain Abrahamson commanded Fleet Area Control Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) Jacksonville from May 2010 to July 2012. As FACSFAC Jacksonville’s Commanding Officer, he was directly in charge of over 80,000 square miles of air and sea training space off the coast of South Carolina and Florida, was the Navy’s clearing house for all air space matters for the entire Southeast, and oversaw the Pinecastle Range Complex.

He reported to USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in August 2012, where he served as Air Officer (“Air Boss”), leading the ship’s largest department of more than 600 personnel. Captain Abrahamson then served as the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs at the Pentagon from December 2014 to January 2017. In this position, he supported the Secretary of Defense’s primary advisor on all DoD activities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Western Hemisphere, and Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia.

Captain Abrahamson has accumulated more than 3,100 flight hours and over 500 carrier arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and numerous unit, campaign, and service awards. Captain Abrahamson is married to the former Christine Oplinger from Greenwich, Connecticut and they have one son, Luke.
