Lieutenant Commander Gail Lamping, a native of Corinth, Kentucky enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June of 1998. After recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, she served as a military police officer onboard MCAS El Toro, CA; MCAS Miramar, CA; and MCB Kaneohe Bay, HI before accepting an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. After graduating the Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 2005, LCDR Lamping was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer (nuclear subspecialty).
Afloat assignments include USS Cape St. George, USS Enterprise, USS Theodore Roosevelt, and USS Bataan. She has served on the staffs of Naval Air Forces Atlantic, Naval Forces Central Command, Operational Test and Evaluation Force, Expeditionary Strike Group Two, and Naval Surface and Mine Warfare Development Center- Amphibious Warfare Division.
Her personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), various service, unit, and campaign awards. LCDR Lamping is married with two children. Her family resides in Norfolk, Virginia.
