Werner Rauchenstein, born and raised in Alaska, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. He earned a commission as an Ensign and was assigned to NAS Pensacola for flight training.
His aviation tours included duty with HSL 41 at NAS North Island, HSL 51 at NAF Atsugi, HSL 45 at NAS North Island and NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, flying the SH-60B and the MH-60S in every facet of fleet helicopter support and search and rescue operations. During this time, he also earned a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School and served as the Flight Deck Officer/Assistant Air Officer in USS TARAWA (LHA 1).
After fulfilling his duty at NAS Whidbey Island, Commander Rauchenstein accepted orders to US SIXTH Fleet under Commander, Task Force SIX THREE, who is also the Commander, MSC Europe and Africa. He expanded his horizons to major staff work as the dual-command’s Plans and Policy Director and Chief Staff Officer. Commander Rauchenstein then enjoyed serving as the Airfield Operations Program Director and Current Operations Officer for Commander Navy Region Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia, overseeing the resourcing and operations of 7 installations across the region. He is currently serving as NSA Souda Bay Executive Officer in support of Department of Defense joint, allied and coalition operations.
