JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – At approximately 10:30 p.m. Jan. 14, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam security forces responded to a vehicle at Nimitz Gate that did not have authorized access to the base. When the gate guard had the vehicle turn around, the guard noticed the smell of drugs and saw potential ordnance in the car. Security forces responded immediately, and representatives from an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team reported to the scene.
There were no injuries, and the scene is secure.
Gates on the base were closed for approximately two hours, with no inbound or outbound traffic allowed. The O’Malley Gate opened for inbound and outbound traffic shortly after midnight. Normal base traffic has resumed except for inbound traffic at Nimitz Gate.
Security forces remain at Nimitz Gate, which is closed to inbound traffic until further notice.
More information will be released when available. Immediate updates will also be posted on the JBPHH Facebook, www.facebook.com/JBPHH and Twitter @JointBasePHH and website at www.cnic.navy.mil/pearlharbor-hickam.
