Unaccompanied Housing Division, U.S. Fleet Activities, Sasebo, Japan

Sasebo is one of the military’s best kept secrets with historical and cultural attractions, diverse outdoor recreational activities, outstanding educational opportunities, and very friendly people. We are committed to offering you the finest quality housing services and accommodations during your tour of duty here!

Formerly known as Bachelor Housing, Unaccompanied Housing’s (UH) mission is to provide suitable and safe housing for all permanently assigned military personnel. UH houses approximately 1,422 Home Port Ashore (HPA) and Permanent Party (PP) service members in 5 buildings. UH is dedicated to the premise of “Service to the Fleet” while complying with all governing instructions.

Our 24/7 Front Desk is located on the 1st floor of building 151, which serves as the check-in point and customer support for questions, concerns, or maintenance issues.

As an added convenience to residents, there are lounges equipped with televisions, washers and dryers, and vending machines in all buildings.

There are many advantages to living on base for Single Sailors:

  • Safe
  • Secure
  • Close to work
  • Centrally located
  • Utility bills included
  • Free laundry facilities
  • Linen is provided at check-in
  • Vending/Recreational Areas

UH is currently operating at “Interim Assignment Policy” (IAP) standard. We are programmed to provide accommodations for permanent party E1-E3, and E4 less than four years of service, deployable military personnel. Those military personnel not captured in this requirement, may contact the 24/7 UH Front Desk IOT determine eligibility for temporary lodging and/or off-installation housing. Housing Referral Service for off-base housing will be provided as soon as verification of entitlements, eligibility and/or non-availability of government quarters has been documented and received.  Authorization, requirements and documentations will vary according to your paygrade and assigned duty station.

Newly reporting shore duty personnel may check in at arrival. Personnel assigned to home ported ships must check-in with their respective units, prior to assignment & occupancy of UH. Please bring copy of orders at check-in.

Newly arrived families, visiting personnel or sailors/civilians on Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) should make arrangement with either the Sasebo Navy Lodge or the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites (NGIS) for temporary lodging.  Newly arrived unaccompanied active duty personnel unable to report to their units because of underway/deployments should report to the Regional Transient Personnel Detachment (R-TPD at PW-63) for assignment to temporary sleeping quarters.

Resident Advisors:

A Resident Advisor (RA) is an E-6 to E-9 single Sailor who lives in the barracks and provides Senior Enlisted leadership and presence for mentoring of junior Sailors residing in UH. The RA program is designed to assist in maintaining good order and discipline in UH.
