School Liaison Officer

151109-N-LQ926-046

The School Liaison Officer is the primary point of contact between the military installation, the local schools and school districts, transitioning families and the community at large.

The Navy School Liaison Officer (SLO) program helps installation and regional commanders work with state departments and local school districts to foster awareness of the stressors on military families brought about by frequent transitions and extended deployments. These education professionals are located on all major Navy installations and serve as linkages between Navy families and schools. Parents and community members with questions on school-age military child education are encouraged to contact their local School Liaison Officer.

Youth Sponsorship

The Youth Sponsorship program is designed to assist young people in making the transition from one installation to another successfully.  It is our goal to help incoming youth adjust and get connected with a youth sponsor at the installation.  Youth sponsors will provide information about area schools, attractions and the surrounding community.  This program is created by and for youth, with youth involved in every aspect of the program.  Youth sponsorship is available through the installation Youth and Teen Center.  Contact the Youth Director at (757) 433-3976 or the School Liaison Officer at (757) 433-2496 for more information.
