CMDCM (SS) Rajpaul Sodhi

Command Master Chief, Navy Submarine Base New London

 

 

In June 2018, Command Master Chief Sodhi became the 18th Command Master Chief of Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn.

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Command Master Chief Sodhi entered the Navy in August 1998 and attended Recruit Training at Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduating from Basic Enlisted Submarine School, in Groton, Conn., he attended Sonar Technician school.

In April 1999, he reported to USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757) homeported in Groton, Conn.  As a member of Sonar Division, he qualified in submarines and completed three deployments including one to the Central Command Area of Operations and one to the Western Pacific Area of Operations. During this tour, he was meritoriously advanced by the Command to First Class Petty Officer.

He next reported to the staff of Naval Submarine School, also in Groton, Conn. He served as Leading Petty Officer of his Trainer division as well as a member of the Modernization Training Team. Completing his Master Training Specialist qualifications, he was recognized as the Naval Submarine School Sailor of the Year for 2007.

In January 2008, he reported to USS MEMPHIS (SSN 691) also homeported in Groton, Conn.  A member of Sonar Division, he qualified Chief of the Watch and Duty Chief Petty Officer.  In August 2008, he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer. In January 2009, he cross-decked to the Groton based USS MIAMI (SSN 755) as Sonar Leading Chief Petty Officer.  In MIAMI, he made an 8-month Northern Deployment, qualified Diving Officer of the Watch, and served as Combat System Department Enlisted Advisor.

Following duty on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron FOUR in Groton and advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer, he reported to USS NEW MEXICO (SSN 779) also homeported in Groton, in February 2013.  In addition to serving as Sonar Leading Chief Petty Officer and Combat Systems Department Enlisted Advisor, he qualified as Pilot and Co-Pilot and completed his Chief of the Boat Qualifications.  In NEW MEXICO, he made a Northern Deployment and participated in ICE-EX 14, surfacing in the Arctic Circle.

 In January 2015, he attended the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 185) and the Chief of the Boat/Command Master Chief courses (Class 141) in Newport, Rhode Island.

In March 2015, he reported to USS MISSOURI (SSN 780) in Groton, as Chief of the Boat. While in MISSOURI, he deployed twice, helping lead the submarine and crew in a permanent change of homeport from Groton to Hawaii. He was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer in August 2017. During his tenure, MISSOURI also earned the 2017 Ney Award for the best submarine galley in the Navy.

Command Master Chief Sodhi’s personal awards include: Enlisted Submarine Warfare Qualification; the Meritorious Service Medal; the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards); the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7 awards); the Good Conduct Medal (4 awards); and, various unit awards.
