Mission:  To provide a quality living environment and service to our customers in accordance with Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Program guidance; maintain and operate unaccompanied housing (UH) facilities; to provide administrative and logistical support to tenant organizations who operate UH facilities; and to perform such other functions and tasks as may be directed by higher authority.

UH at Naval Station (NAVSTA) Great Lakes has 38 buildings consisting of 20,364 beds under three different types of housing:  permanent party, dormitory and recruits.

Permanent Party:  The Navy’s goal is to provide suitable housing for all E1- E4 Sailors based on local conditions.  Permanent party housing consists of 5 buildings with 479 Beds.  They are all fully furnished, to include a refrigerator with freezer and microwave.  Other amenities include:  laundry facility for each building, five lounges with flat screen TV and cable, and internet is available for purchase through several contractors. 

NAVSTA Great Lakes primarily serves training commands:  Training Support Center Great Lakes, Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit (CSCSU) Great Lakes, Surface Warfare Engineering School Command (SWESC) Great Lakes and Recruit Training Command.

Depending on your assignment status (shore duty, sea duty, student, etc.) and pay grade, your options may include Navy UH or housing in the local community.

 Personnel within pay grades E1-E4 bona-fide bachelors can expect to reside in permanent party housing if stationed at NAVSTA Great Lakes.  More senior personnel are expected to reside in the local community.

 UH are government-owned and managed housing.  Eligibility is based on your pay grade and basic allowance for housing (BAH) entitlement.

Dormitories for Students:  Dormitory barracks consist of 19 buildings with 5,605 beds.  Students attending A, C school will reside in one of our student housing barracks.

Recruit Barracks:  UH maintains 14 recruit training command barracks with 14,280 beds.
