Family housing (FH) at Naval Station (NAVSTA) Newport is part of the Fleet and Family Readiness Program in the Mid Atlantic Region. On behalf of the program manager and the commanding officer of NAVSTA Newport, we look forward to assisting you during your transition to the Newport area.

Active duty Service Members transferring to the Newport area interested in obtaining information on housing should contact the HSC at (401) 841-2232 or DSN: 948-2232. To apply for housing, you will need to submit an application package via email, fax or mail containing the following: Application for Assignment to Housing (DD form 1746), Sex Offenders Acknowledgment form, copy of permanent change of station (PCS) orders and a dependency verification, (if applicable). A geographic bachelor (GB) and single sailor program is now available to allow bachelors to share a furnished home. Please contact the HSC to obtain information on this program.

NAVSTA Newport no longer operates a mobile home park. Additionally, community mobile home lots are extremely difficult to obtain within the commuting area.
Approximately 325 units are designated for students attending the Naval War College and SWOS Department Head schools. To ensure that your wait is minimal, students are encouraged to submit an advanced application package and contact the HSC prior to detaching from your current command.
Referral services for housing in the civilian community are available from the NAVSTA Newport HSC. Service Members are required to contact the HSC prior to securing community housing. The HSC staff will provide you with a housing welcome package containing information as well as a list of local real estate agencies, a list of local apartment complexes, a map of the local area, a referral guidebook, community school information and more.
The HSC is available to review your lease agreement to ensure that it is in compliance with the local and state Tenant - Landlord laws. We will also assist with information on security deposits, check-in or out inspections, military clauses, group sharing and more. The HSC staff will help ensure that all personnel receive fair and equal opportunity for housing in the civilian community.

Unaccompanied Housing Overview
NAVSTA Newport unaccompanied housing (UH) has 8 buildings with a total of 1,169 rooms and 2,079 beds, all fully furnished with amenities
Depending on your assignment status (shore duty, sea duty, student, etc.) and pay grade, your options may include Navy UH or housing in the local community.
- Sea and shore duty personnel within pay grades E1-E3 and E4 (with less than 4 years’ service) can expect to reside in permanent party UH.
- Based on local conditions, 50 to 75 percent of E4s with more than 4 years of service may be housed in UH.
- Students will reside in one of our student housing facilities.
- More senior personnel are expected to reside in the local community.
- UH are government-owned and managed housing. Eligibility is based on your pay grade and basic allowance for housing (BAH) entitlement.
UH unit qualities:
- Comfortable, fully-furnished.
- Clean, safe and secure housing.
- Location, location, location:
- Close to work (no traffic).
- Base recreation.
- Additional installation support services.
- No - Rent fees.
- Fees - Utilities, cable, interne and land line (if needed). Note: BAH will stop.
