Commander McGehee, a native of Front Royal, Virginia, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). She was commissioned in May 2003 as a Surface Warfare Officer. She was commissioned in May 2003 as a Surface Warfare Officer. Her first assignment was aboard the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS COLE (DDG-67), homeported in Norfolk, VA, where she served as the point defense officer and anti-submarine warfare officer. While onboard USS COLE she completed a six-month deployment as part of NATO’s Standing Naval Forces Mediterranean and participated in the ASW-intensive exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) 2005. Her next assignment in 2005 was as Force Protection and Maritime Security Officer at Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (CDS-28), in Norfolk, VA, where she completed an eight-month deployment as a part of the USS EISENHOWER (CVN-69) Carrier Strike Group. She was transferred to the Pentagon in 2007 to serve as the Combatting Weapons of Mass Destruction and Ballistic Missile Defense Action Officer in the Navy Strategy and Policy Branch (OPNAV N51). She completed a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College Distance Education Program as well as Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I during this tour. In 2009, she was selected for lateral transfer into the Human Resources community and served as Military Pay and Compensation Policy Action Officer in OPNAV N13. During this tour she received her certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). In 2012, she transferred to the Naval Research Laboratory as the Administrative Officer for the Military Support Division. In 2015, she assumed Command of the Knoxville Military Entrance Processing Station located in Knoxville, TN. In 2017 she transferred to Fort Meade, MD and assumed responsibilities as the Chief, Personnel, Manpower and Security (J1) for the newly established, Joint Force Headquarters Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN).
Commander McGehee’s military awards and decorations include two defense meritorious service medals, one meritorious service medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendations Medals, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
