Capt. Jonathan Kline

Commanding Officer, NSA Hampton Roads

Captain Jonathan Kline, a native of Canonsburg, Pa., graduated and received his commission from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Designated a Naval Aviator in 1997, Kline has logged 3,000 flight hours in more than 15 rotary and fixed wing aircrafts, primarily the H-46D and MH-60S.

His sea duty assignments include Helicopter Combat Support Squadron ELEVEN (HC 11) in San Diego, Calif.; deploying with USS ESSEX (LHD-2) and USS BRIDGE (AOE-10) and serving as Legal Officer and Maintenance Quality Assurance Officer; and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWENTY FIVE (HSC 25), Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, as Detachment Officer-in-Charge on USNS NIAGARA FALLS (AFS-3) and Squadron Maintenance Officer.

His shore assignments include Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC 3) as a Fleet Replacement Instructor Pilot in the H-46D; the United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) and Air Test and Evaluation Squadron TWENTY ONE (HX 21) in Patuxent River, Md.; Joint duty with United States Southern Command in Miami, Fla., and the United States Transportation Command’s Joint Enabling Capabilities Command in Norfolk, Va.; and Commander, Naval Forces Europe/Naval Forces Africa-Commander, SIXTH Fleet in Naples, Italy.

Kline earned his Master of Science in Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee in 2005, and is a 2013 distinguished graduate from the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, National Defense University, Norfolk, Va., earning a Master of Science in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy.

In 2011, Kline took command of HSC-26 in Norfolk, Va., leading the squadron through introduction and deployment of the MH-60S Armed Helo kit, including the squadron’s first AGM-114 Live Fire, and the worldwide employment and deployment of 20 MH-60S aircraft and more than 400 Sailors and Officers conducting combat logistics, fleet logistics, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance operations.

Kline’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy Achievement Medal (four awards).
