Congratulations on your new assignment to Naval Support Activity (NSA) Hampton Roads. As home to the largest U.S. Navy base in the world, there is perhaps nowhere else in the world that knows the Navy better. Pinpointing Hampton Roads on a map is nearly impossible. It is actually made up of a dozen or so cities and counties. Like other metropolitan areas, it may be difficult at first to figure out when you have left one city and entered another. To complicate things further, many call the region "Tidewater." With a landmass of nearly 1,500 square miles and a population of more than 1.6 million people, Hampton Roads is the 27th largest metropolitan statistical area in the United States.
