Command Master Chief Jason Dunn, a native of Columbus, Ohio, attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in 1991. He attended Fire Controlman “A” School and subsequently completed Tomahawk “C” School in San Diego, California.
During his time in the Navy, he served as Tomahawk Lead Petty Officer (LPO) and acting Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) onboard USS Fife (DD 991) and USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), promoting to Chief at Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet onboard the USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). He served as Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (DLCPO) of Weapons Department and attained his SUWC, AAWC, CSC and TAO qualifications during his tour onboard USS Russell (DDG 59). His two shore tours included Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific (ATG MIDPAC) and CSEL at U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) Cruise Missile Support Activity.
In 2013, he was selected for Command Master Chief and stood up the first Command Master Chief billet at Commander, Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (CDS 15), embarking onboard the USS George Washington (CVN 73) and further facilitating the staff migration and hull swap to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during his tour.
In October 2015, he reported as Command Master Chief, USS Chancellorsville (CG 62). During that time, the ship earned the Spokane Trophy, awarded by U.S. Pacific Fleet to the surface combatant ship considered to be the most proficient in overall combat systems readiness and warfare operations.
In June 2018, he reported as Command Master Chief, Naval Base San Diego. At the end of his first year, the base earned the Dept. of Defense Installation Award and Presidential Award for Installation Excellence in 2019.
In January 2020, he assumed the duties as Command Master Chief, Navy Region Northwest.
Dunn is an Honor graduate of the U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Class 2011-A, Flight 02 and earned his degree from Wayland Baptist University in Information Systems Management.
His personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (8 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
