PLEASE NOTE: You DO NOT need to purchase anything on the Camden County school list posted at local stores. All materials such as tissues, crayons, etc. will be provided by Pre-K.
The Safari class starts at 8:00 a.m. The teacher will open the classroom door when it is time for you to come in. There will be a welcome period from 8:00 a.m. until 8:05 a.m. If you arrive after 8:05 a.m., you will be considered tardy. If you arrive before 8:00 a.m., please wait QUIETLY in the hallway by our door until it opens… Another Pre-K class is already in session; please be respectful of their learning time.
You may drop your child off any time between 6:15 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. in the designated before-care room. Your child will play in the before-care room until Pre-K begins. The before-care caregivers will bring your child to Pre-K when it begins.
The teacher will open the classroom door for you to pick up at 2:30 p.m. If you are not there to pick your child up at 2:30 p.m. when the door opens, your child will be considered late and he/she will be taken to after-care. If this occurs, you will be charged a $4 late fee (payable at the front desk). **It is important that you arrive at our door promptly at 2:30 p.m. as there may not be room for your child in the after school program if he/she isn't enrolled.
Please call ahead if you will be unable to be on time. If there is room in the after-care class, your child can be "dropped in" for a small fee. You will need to call the front desk at (912) 573-3888 and make prior arrangements for this as availability is based on daily numbers. A spot is not always open so you must call ahead.

Please notify the teacher in advance that you will be picking your child up early. If you are taking him/her to an appointment, please bring in a doctor/dentist note the following day. Please refer to the calendar section of the website for Show & Tell dates during each month. Sometimes, a note will be posted on the outside of the classroom door letting you know they are having Show & Tell, if it is cancelled, or if you need to bring in something specific for Show & Tell.
Your child needs to choose ONE item to bring in for Show & Tell. This item must fit in the cubby and cannot be made of harmful/breakable materials such as glass. No toys with weapons will be allowed (swords, guns, etc.). The item needs to be something your child can talk about on his/her own. We do this to foster language so talk to your child about what can be said about the item he/she chooses to bring. **NO PETS/LIVE ANIMALS may be brought in for Show & Tell.** Please LABEL the item you bring in. The CDC, its staff, and teachers are not responsible for broken or lost items.
If your child gets a boo-boo at school or a behavior report needs to be written, we will provide you with a written copy of what happened. This will be sealed and posted on your child's cubby. Please read and sign it, then return it to the teacher personally or place it in our mailbox located outside of our classroom door. If you want a copy of the report, please ask the teacher for one, but DO NOT take the original home with you. If the teacher is not available, you may ask the front desk to run a copy for you.
We ask that you please do not allow your child to bring in items from home (unless it is Show & Tell). This includes, but is not limited to: lip gloss, small toys, coins, food, etc. Please have your child give you any items that may be in his/her hands at the door and take them home with you when you drop off. Thanks for your understanding on this matter.
Please take home your child's blanket on Friday to be washed and returned on Monday. This will help us reduce the spread of germs and sickness in our classroom. If we had Show & Tell on Friday, please take home the item he/she brought in. Please DO NOT take home your child's extra clothes.
It is IMPERATIVE that our children learn to cover their cough or sneeze with their ELBOW rather than their hand because their hands touch everything in our class. When you cough or sneeze in your hand and then touch a toy or a pencil, for example, you have just spread your germs to the next person who touches that item. If your child is touched by a hand that was just coughed or sneezed in, it may infect an open scratch or cut on your child. Although any doctor or hospital recommends covering in this method, generally speaking, it is even more important in a classroom because we have 20 children touching everything in reach. This method of covering a cough/sneeze also protects (or at least reduces) the germs leaving your mouth/nose from spreading into the air. We ask that you enforce this crucial rule in your home as well as support us enforcing it at school.
All three (3) Pre-K classrooms are using the same curriculum (Creative) and for the most part work on the same discovery ideas. However, we do use emergent practices. This means that if our children are particularly interested in something that has happened or comes up, then we focus on that while the learning experience is there. All three (3) classrooms are unique inside and although we may all be discovering the weather, we may present it in different ways. Often we will do activities together, but sometimes you will find that certain activities are unique to each classroom and all rooms will not be
joining in them. We do plan together and each teacher is aware of what is going on in the other Pre-K rooms. This allows us to be a team but continue to share our own individuality.
Bright From The Start (BFTS) is the Georgia state-funded Pre-K program that your child is enrolled in. This means that your child is getting a full curriculum year in school free. All teachers are licensed and have a degree. Each room has a full-time aide to assist the teacher. Each region of the state has a specific contact person who is available to the teachers and directors for support, help, etc. She/he also is the person who "pops" into our classrooms randomly and uses a very lengthy assessment check list to "grade" our classrooms. All three (3) classrooms are graded on the same scale. You can also visit the Georgia BFTS website and see where each school in the region/area scored.
YES! We also fall under the Navy's standards. They come yearly and monitor/assess all programs in the daycare and Pre-K. We are also nationally accredited by NAEYC.
They are codes that tell the teacher which goal from BFTS she is assessing weekly within her class. Next to the lesson plan board is a binder that has the entire list of Content Standards for BFTS Pre-K. Each teacher must present to the class some learning time on every goal in some way during the school year. By noting the goal on her lesson plan, she can track which goals have been presented. The state requires that we note a minimum of one goal from every domain (there are 7 domains) on each lesson plan. This also helps the teacher make sure she is teaching something from every area every week. I personally suggest you take a moment and thumb through the Content Standards binder. I am sure you will be surprised at just how many goals there are for Pre-K and how much learning is really going on during the year. It is also a good guide to read over so you can have a mental picture of what your child should be doing by the time they go to Kindergarten.
When you bring in a small blanket on Monday, we will use it for nap time and then store it on your child's cot all week. He/she will return it to their cubby on Friday afternoon in time to go home and be washed. This helps us keep the cubby area clean and free from tripping hazards. Please make sure your child has a blanket that he/she feels comfortable leaving at Pre-K all week (not one they are attached to and will want in their own bed at night). Please label the tag of the blanket with your child's initials.
There is a nut allergy in one of the Pre-K classrooms. Because we switch classes for Before & After Care and sometimes do things together - we must all be a nut-free environment to help protect our classmate. This means that ANY items brought in for birthday parties, activities, etc. CANNOT contain NUTS! Please read all labels before purchasing things for our classroom and be aware that we cannot accept anything containing nuts in any Pre-K classroom. If you are unsure PLEASE ASK US to verify.
Your child can wear generally anything they wish. We ask that you take caution of short skirts and put shorts underneath. Also, the children must wear CLOSED-TOED shoes with a back at all times. We are very active and the children ride bikes, go on long walks, etc. We have to take caution in this matter to keep them safe. We also ask that you do not send your child to school in jewelry that may get lost or broken. Watches, necklaces, hanging earrings, etc. are best left at home. Thanks for understanding.
We serve breakfast to all Pre-K students during our instructional day. We use this time to work on family-style dining skills and skills needed for pouring, serving, etc. We also will serve lunch during Pre-K. You do not need to bring any lunch money and you don't need to pack a lunch for your child either. It will all be done here at Pre-K. If your child stays for after school they will be served a small snack with the after school class.
