In August 1997, Cmdr. Jenkins was commissioned as an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps through Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Fla. After commissioning, he reported to Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, S.C. as the Assistant Public Works Officer.
In 2000, he then transferred to Engineering Field Activity Mediterranean, where he served as the Resident Officer In Charge of Construction in Vicenza, Italy.
In 2003, he detached to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ONE where he served as the Alfa Company Commander, Detachment Balad Assistant OIC, SERT OIC, and finally as Mobility OIC serving the 2ND Marine Expeditionary Force in Fallujah, Iraq.
He detached from NMCB ONE in October 2005 to become the Public Works Officer for Naval Support Activity Thurmont, Camp David, where he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
In August 2008, he received a Master’s of Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. Later in 2008 he transferred to Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southeast where he served as the Resident Officer In Charge of Construction Beaufort, S.C., supporting Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
In 2011 he transferred to the THIRD Naval Construction Regiment as Chief Staff Officer, where he was promoted to Commander.
In 2013, he returned to Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southeast where he served as Public Works Officer, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay. Following Guantanamo Bay, in 2016, he was detailed to the Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, as the Executive Officer.
Cmdr. Jenkins is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina and a member of the Acquisition Professional Community, DAWIA Level III certified. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four, one w/valor), Army Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two). He is qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer.
