Mayport Youth Sponsorship Program

The Youth Sponsorship Program, created for youth by youth, is designed to help youth and teens make a successful and smooth transition from one installation to another. Relocating can be challenging for military youth... changes in peer groups, loss of relationships with caring, supportive adults from outside the family, fitting into a new place and a new school. In addition, not knowing what activities are available can be tough for our youth and teens. For these reasons and more, please contact us at (904) 246-0347.

School Age Care and Seasonal Camps
The Youth Activities Center (YAC) offers a nationally accredited School Age Care program designed to give children a safe place to grow and learn before and after school. This program is open from 6 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and provides transportation to both Mayport and Finegan Elementary schools. School Age Care fees are based on total family income pursuant to Navy regulations. Before and After School Care is available any time school is in session and is also available on early release and non-school days. Snacks are provided to all children in concordance with USDA regulations. The Before and After School program provides a structured environment with weekly programming done by trained staff and participates in base wide special events and local community service projects.

In the weeks that school is not in session, the Youth Activities Center offers a summer camp program, spring break camp and winter break camp. Children will participate in a variety of field trips and activities including trips to Adventure Landing Water Park, Chuck E. Cheese’s, as well as the Museum of Science and History. This is in addition to daily field trips to the gym, swimming pool and other on-base facilities. This camp is a place where kids can really enjoy their time off.

Boys and Girls Club and 4-H Programs
The Youth Activities Center is a partner with Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and 4-H offering quality curriculum and programming for Mayport's youth. BGCA programs include Power Hour, an incentive based homework help program, Fine Arts, a program that allows kids of all ages to express themselves through art and BGCA clubs such as Keystone and Torch Clubs, which are community service and leadership programs for teens and pre-teens. In addition to BGCA curriculum, the Youth Activities Center and Teen Center offer 4-H curriculum for youth development with the following essential elements: Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity.

Open Recreation
Open Recreation is held Monday through Saturday at the Youth Activities Center for Kindergarten through age 12. The Youth Activities Center, in conjunction with BGCA, also hosts special events such as Parents’ Freedom Friday and National Day for Kids.

The Teen Center holds Open Recreation Monday through Saturday for age 12 through seniors in high school. Activities at the Teen Center include computers, video games, pool tables, air hockey, foosball, music, TV and movies. A variety of special events are also scheduled monthly. Club Teen is located next door to the Youth Activities Center in on-base housing.

There is no monthly fee for the Open Recreation Program and special events are very inexpensive.

Instructional Classes
The Youth Activities Center currently offers Martial Arts classes for ages 3-17. Dance classes are offered for ages 3 1/2 and older. Registration for all instructional classes is held at the Youth Activities Center Monday through Friday during business hours, 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
