SERVICES

MONEY MANAGEMENT

The Society devotes considerable attention and significant resources to educating service members and their families in the basics of responsible money management.  All NMCRS locations can help service members and their families review and understand their monthly spending plans and make recommendations for improvements.  Please call 901-874-7350 for an appointment.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society can provide interest-free loans or grants to help with emergency needs such as:

  • Emergency Transportation
  • Funeral Expenses
  • Medical/dental Bills (patient's share)
  • Food, Rent, and Utilities
  • Disaster Relief Assistance
  • Child Care Expenses
  • Essential Vehicle Repairs
  • Unforeseen Family Emergencies

LAYETTE / BUDGET FOR BABY

The Layette program is designed to help new, or prospective, parents learn about the impact that a new baby can have on the financial situation of the family unit. Through a program of preventive education, clients learn about variations in pay and increased expenses, common consumer pressures targeted to new parents, and entitlements available through government and private sources.

The Layette (formally known as a Junior Seabag) is issued to any eligible recipient who has recently had a baby or whose child will be born within six months. It consists of a coordinated set of bedding, clothing, a baby book, and a handmade blanket all packed in a tote. Layettes will be given to recipients after they attend a "Budget for Baby" class or complete an individual budget session with a Society caseworker.  Please call the office at 901-874-7350 to sign up for our quarterly class!

UNIFORM LOCKER

The NMCRS Uniform Locker provides up to three complete uniforms to service members, retirees, reservists and sea cadets by appointment.  Donations of uniform items are accepted on an appointment basis and a tax form may be requested.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society's education programs help eligible Navy and Marine Corps families pursue their academic goals by providing a source of education financing. Awards are provided solely on the basis of the applicant's financial need, in accordance with policies established by the Society's Board of Directors. Education Programs are administered by NMCRS Headquarters. The NMCRS education programs — Travers, Tennessee, Dependents of Deceased, and Boorda — are administered by Headquarters, with contract support from ACT Recognition Program Services. Please visit http://www.nmcrs.org/ for more information.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Needs You!!!

Become Part of a Worldwide Team! Sign-up to be a Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Volunteer. Opportunities to help: Casework, Reception, Publicity, and Uniform Locker.

Caseworker:  Help solve the great budget mystery.  Every day, Sailors and Marines come to NMCRS for help stretching their limited paychecks to cover life’s necessities or unexpected emergencies.  Our winning team of volunteer caseworkers counsels them one-on-one, helping unravel the mystery of family budgeting and identifying hidden resources.  If you like helping people, problem solving, tracking down unknowns, and working in a professional atmosphere, contact us at 874-7350 to see how our training can enhance your skills.  You can make the difference!

Receptionist: Rainy days happen when we least expect them.  Sailors, Marines and their families appear at our doors during these downpours.  Be that calming, friendly helper who greets them and helps them begin the process of solving the problem. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society offers training to complement your winning smile and desire to help.  Join our team of volunteer receptionists as they guide clients through the initial intake process.  Work in a professional office setting, enhance your job skills, and make friends with others who share your values of helping those in need.  Call 874-7350 to apply for one of these sought-after positions.

Publicity:  Did you know NMCRS has interest-free loans, free layettes, budget counseling, and Quick Assist Loans?  These services often go untapped because Sailors and Marines don’t know they exist.  Use your journalism skills to help them discover these unknown resources.  Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society has a valuable work-study opportunity available for the right person.  Editing a newsletter, conducting a publicity campaign, and helping design other public affairs materials are a few of the accomplishments we can add to your resume if you are the right person.  Hours are flexible and we reimburse for childcare and mileage while you work.  Call 874-7350 to be considered.
