A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, CAPT Batz received his bachelor's degree from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and was commissioned as a Medical Corps Officer upon graduation from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996.
A native of New York, New York, CAPT Victor M. Diaz enlisted in the Navy in 1991 under the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program. Following recruit training and completion of BOOST, he attended Jacksonville University on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship and received his bachelor’s degree in nursing and commission in 1996.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1999. Upon completion of basic military training at Recruit Training Command and Hospital Corpsman "A" School in Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Field Medical Service School in Camp Lejeune, NC. In April 2000, he reported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (NMCP) where he served as a General Duty Corpsman for Ambulatory Procedure Department.
