Taxis and Shuttles with Base Access
Security Note: Taxi Cab Safety. Local Law Enforcement and the NBSD Force Protection Department have received sporadic reports of general crimes and/or unwarranted confrontational behavior against Sailors by taxi cab drivers. NBSD personnel and their families are advised to exercise caution, good judgment and to maintain situational awareness when utilizing taxi cab services, particularly when 'hailing' a cab around military installations and in popular destinations such as downtown San Diego and the beach area. NBSD strongly recommends using taxi services that have already been vetted by Navy Region Southwest and approved for base access. This list can be obtained via your chain of command.
Several taxi and shuttle companies have drivers who are authorized access to Naval Base San Diego. Patrons may be picked up and dropped off at designated locations on base.
Queuing for authorized cabs is permitted at designated taxi stands at Piers 4, 7 and 13; the Navy Exchange Food Court; and Snyder Park. Taxis and shuttles are not permitted to roam on Naval Base San Diego, however, they may be “flagged” while in route to or from taxi stands.
Note: You are still required to show proper military identification to gain access to the base. Each company has an assigned driver with base access. When you call the company you must request a driver with base access. Before entering the cab ask to see the driver's base access pass.
