A Rockford, IL native, Captain King joined the Navy in 1982, and served as a computer operator on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). He graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1988 and was commissioned an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps. He earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of New Orleans in 2002 and completed the Senior Executive Fellows Executive Program at Harvard University in 2014. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in Wisconsin.
Captain King’s first assignments were Activity Civil Engineer, PWC Norfolk, Planning Officer, U.S. Naval Station Panama Canal, and AROICC, Great Lakes, IL. He then served with NMCB 25 from 1993-1998 and was recalled to active duty in 1998 where he worked as Seabee Support Officer, Commander Naval Surface Reserve Force.
Since 2000 his shore duty assignments include Public Works Officer, NAVSEASYSCOM; PWO/ROICC, NAF Atsugi; Individual Augmentation in Baghdad, Iraq as CENTCOM J4E LNO for MNF-I; Public Works Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division, Naval Base Ventura County; Infrastructure Director, Joint Guam Program Office, Assistant Secretary of the Navy(EI&E); Public Works Officer, Naval Support Activity South Potomac. He also served as Operations Officer and Executive Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas, Guam.
Captain King assumed the role as Chief Staff Officer for Naval Base Ventura County in July 2015.
Captain King is a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, Warranted Contracting Officer, and Acquisition Professional Community member. He has been awarded the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and other service awards.
