Lt. Mary W. Leone (maiden name Whitt) was born and raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia with a Masters of Architecture degree in 2010 and commissioned in the United States Navy via Officer Candidate School (OCS) in February 2011.
Lt. Leone's previous assignments include serving as Communications Officer for NMCB One during their OEF CENTCOM deployment and subsequently as DET Sigonella, Sicily OIC for NMCB One's EUCOM/AFRICOM deployment.
She then served at Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii as Deputy Team Leader and Construction Manager in the Facility Engineering and Acquisition Division. As Team Leader and Construction Manager, Lt. Leone managed 13 personnel and oversaw 50 mission-critical projects valued at $226M that supported Air Force and Navy operational requirements, while simultaneously directly managing construction projects valued at $26M, including the mission-critical Hickam Ground Control Tower on Hickam Airfield.
Lt. Leone then joined NAVFAC Pacific as the Capital Improvements Intern Architect where she enrolled in and completed the Architect Intern Development Program to obtain Architect license eligibility. She reported to PWD Ventura in August 2016 as the Asset Management Branch Head leading a team of 10 to manage facilities planning and maintenance for 90 supported commands. Lt. Leone assumed duties as AOIC of San Nicolas Island in January 2018.
She is a Seabee Combat Warfare qualified Officer. Her Naval decorations include 2 Navy Achievement Medals, Afganistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, ISAF NATO Medal, and other unit specific awards.
Lt. Leone's family includes her husband Alfredo Leone and their dog Hilo. Alfredo is currently working as an electrician in Carpinteria, CA.
