CDR Jason Simon is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. In 2001 he graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Following civilian flight training in Daytona Beach, FL, CDR Simon joined the Navy and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 2003 aboard NAS Pensacola. After attending primary flight training in Corpus Christi, TX, CDR Simon earned his Wings of Gold while stationed aboard NAS Meridian, MS in December of 2005.LCDR Gutting has accumulated over 2700 flight hours and 400 carrier arrested landings. His decorations include Air Medal (2 Strike/Flight), Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal (2) and various service and campaign awards.
CDR Simon completed the FRS syllabus while assigned to VFA-106 in February 2007 and was assigned to the Fighting Checkmates of VFA-211 where he completed a surge deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Subsequently, CDR Simon served as an Operational Test Director for the AIM-120D AMRAAM missile program with VX-9 in China Lake, CA. Follow on assignments saw CDR Simon deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Fires Officer with SEAL Team 10, as well as serving as a Department Head with VFA-32 where he deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
CDR Simon returned to VX-9 in 2017 where he oversaw Operational Test, as well as Tactics Development & Evaluation, and served as the Executive Officer while simultaneously earning his MBA through the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. His upcoming assignment is to serve as the Executive Officer for Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight Award, three), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and other various service and unit awards.
