LCDR Gutting was raised in Brockton Massachusetts and received a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Upon earning his wings as a Naval Flight Officer in April of 2001 he reported to VS-41, the S-3B Viking fleet replacement squadron. Upon disestablishment of the VS-38 Red Griffins on board the USS Constellation LCDR Gutting was selected for the NFO to Pilot transition and reentered the Navy’s flight program and received his wings as a Naval Aviator in December of 2005. He reported to the Gladiators of VFA-106 based at NAS Oceana, Virginia for training in the F/A-18E/F. Following his FRS training he reported to the Fighting Swordsmen of VFA-32 on board the USS Truman. He served as the Air to Air weapons training officer and the Senior Watch Officer. The Swordsmen won the Atlantic fleet Strike Fighter Battle E and flew missions supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom during his time frame. In 2009 LCDR Gutting reported to Air Command and Staff College and was selected to represent the school in an exchange exercise with the Poland. LCDR Gutting Completed his department head tour with VT-86, training student Naval Flight Officers in the T-45 Goshawk as served as Operations Officer and Plans and Production Officer. Following his department head tour he reported to Tactical Air Control Group One as the Plans Officer. During this tour he supported major amphibious exercises spanning the Pacific. He is currently serving as the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake Acting Executive Officer.
LCDR Gutting has accumulated over 2700 flight hours and 400 carrier arrested landings. His decorations include Air Medal (2 Strike/Flight), Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal (2) and various service and campaign awards.
